RIA I - the start

RIA Design Studio’s first piece (RIA I) was developed in Lagos, as an indoor/outdoor chair with

a simple, sturdy but aesthetically pleasing design. Handcrafted by local artisans and craftsmen,

a focus was placed on the easily replicable steel frame made using simple geometric shapes.

This chair was woven with rattan, a popular durable natural material made from a type of

climbing palm tree. Known for flexibility and endurance, the material can be found in many

modern homes, woven into various forms of art or furniture.

RIA I was the start of the brand, and although it has been enhanced with the New York spirit for

RIA II, it remains a need-to-have piece of indoor or outdoor furniture.

RIA II

RIA II is RIA I perfected. When our founder moved to Brooklyn, New York, he was inspired by

the industrial architecture of the city and its fashion-forward residents.

The RIA II is a sleek chair featuring a brushed aluminium frame that provides a modern

aesthetic, while the pebbled leather and unique weaving technique ensure maximum comfort

and style. The charred wooden handles are created using the ancient Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique, bringing in another culture from across the world in line with the Studio’s aim of attracting a global audience. RIA II is a luxurious twist on the initial concept, resulting in a comfortable and even more visually impressive indoor chair.
